A unique hilltop stream and gazebo

This house is in secluded valley outside Devizes on the side of a hill overlooking a secret valley where the deer come down to graze. The garden is established with many fine specimen trees. In the area behind the house, below the greenhouse and beside the apple tree, they wanted a rondavel-type summerhouse and associated water feature. This involved digging into the side of the hill to create a flat area for the base of the gazebo, building the summerhouse and the constructing a faux stream.

BEFORE. The site for the rondavel and stream

DURING. The completed ‘circulating’ stream ready for planting Autumn 2022. Click here for a video tour.

The platform and gazebo are installed.

The design and planting plan. The parallel lines are contour lines every 25cm; a steep hill.

Breaking ground for the stream; the water tank for the circulating water+pump are already installed (the white object).

Proposed plants

The stream bed is excavated and the water source installed.

The stones are carefully placed to allow water to fall at different speeds.
